Between homework, sports, clubs, and social obligations, high school doesn’t build in a lot of time for sleep. Thus, students often resort to multitasking: sleeping while in class. Regardless of faculty approval, the student napping epidemic is pervasive and won’t go away anytime soon. From Mr. Alley’s video production room to the stairwell by bio, it is very likely you will spot a student dozing off amongst the others.
Recent interviews with a meticulously curated sample of students reveal their favorite slumbering spots. Sophia Casaletto, a senior at PCS, says Mr. Koens’s room is her favorite napping arena: “I would hit the sack by sleeping on my side in a fetal-esque position once a week.” 10th-grader Siobhan Wall expressed interest in this spot. Although there is high probability of being caught if you openly in a classroom, “that’s the beauty of it.”
Many students also expressed interest in the fresher, greener aspect of sleeping outdoors. Some students expressed interest in sleeping, for example, on the large PCS sign or they mentioned the peace and tranquility of sleeping under a tree in the sun. Despite this, slumbering outside poses a huge risk of dustiness and caterpillar interference.
Many other students remarked on the comfort of various places in the hallways. Eight-grader Aria Casaletto mentioned her favorite napping spot was “the hall”. After being asked for a specific location, she failed to specify.
Most students’ perceived risk of their favorite napping spot was between 7-10/10, indicating that risk was not a significant factor for students to decide where to sleep. This reveals one of two things: either PCS students are remarkably transparent with their schooltime naps, or PCS students are not intimidated by the prospect of getting caught sleeping. Either way, PCS proves to be a restful place for students to both learn and recharge.
