Whether you’re graduating from 8th grade or 12th grade, there’s no denying the impact of a good send off. Because of this, for a lot of people, some of the most meaningful gifts come from graduation. So, what should you get for your graduating friends and family members? We interviewed seniors and other members of the PCS community to gain their insight on what gifts would hold the most value for them. Through our interviews, we noticed the resounding trend of both physical and experiential gifts being greatly appreciated. For example, most seniors going away for college requested decorations for dorm rooms, such as pictures, lights, and reminders of loved ones. They also commonly asked for basic toiletries and household necessities, for instance, vacuums, various cleaning products, skincare, shower shoes, and bed sheets. Next, more popular requests were food and food-making appliances, including tea kettles, rice makers, ramen, and mini-microwaves or mini-refrigerators. Electronic products such as chargers, noise-cancelling headphones, and new devices were sought after, but many seniors acknowledged that the price may be too expensive. There were also many requests for clothing items, such as comfy lounge wear, and even college merch such as tote bags or sweaters. In terms of experience-based gifts, there were seniors who found the thought of a dinner out with friends or a camping trip to a beautiful place most enticing. Also, a large amount of college campuses are reliant on biking. Therefore, a good bike lock (which is more expensive than you think) can be a big help. Regardless, the noticeably most-sought after gift was cash. Nevertheless, no matter what gifts you give or what resources are available to you, the important thing is celebrating and supporting the graduates.
