Aaron Saunders

March 12, 2019

Blood Orange—Negro Swan: This was Blood Orange’s senior album and he followed up his last album with an extremely solid group of 16 tracks. This album has surprise features from several artists, mainly A$AP Rocky, Steve Lacy, and Puff Daddy. At a tight 50 minutes with no filler tracks, each song gives a very intimate look into Orange’s, life painting a picture of his vulnerable upbringing. Denzel Curry—Taboo: Denzel Curry released his junior album in late July to much critical praise. It varied much from what he had released previously. The album was released in three different parts each with a different t...

The Greatest Instrument Ever Played

The Greatest Instrument Ever Played

December 9, 2016

The Greatest Instrument Ever Played When you think of orchestral music, what's the first thing that comes to mind? Mozart? Violins? Music that makes your eyelids feel like they weigh more than a tuba? The only way for the far too common negative associations with orchestral music to disappear is for a new section to be introduced to the orchestra, a section consisting of the greatest instrument ever...

Vu’s Views: Frequently Asked Questions about the Violin

December 9, 2016

Dear Reader, I get a lot of questions about violin in general, so I figured I would make a FAQ for the violin. Q: Should violinists sacrificially kill their cat for strings, or will any cat killed in any method suffice? David Bowie ‘Blackstar’ Review

Zoey Tiller

January 22, 2016

David Bowie was never one to shy away from the weirder side of art. This is something he certainly proved over the course of 26 studio albums and something he continued to prove with his newest one. Blackstar is ambitious--the album has 7 songs, with the average length being above five minutes, and it is filled with more jazz-styled music than any other genre. Saxophones play throughout the album, especially in the songs Lazarus and ‘Tis a Pity She was a Whore. The album has a large focus on emotions which are portrayed through lyrics and sound. The album’s title track, “Blackstar,” talks about “the day of ...

It accomplished international commercial success, reaching number one in 28 countries including the United Kingdom. It became her second UK number one single, following "Someone like You", and has had the largest opening week sales in three years. The genre for “Hello” is soul. We know that Adele has been gone for a year or two—this is because she has recently had a son. This has changed Adele's opinion and she said that it has influenced her and really brought Adele into figuring out what mu...

Too Darn Hot – A PCS Fusion Dance Performance Review

Danielle Sugrue, Managing Editor

February 24, 2015

Not unlike a breakfast buffet at the Marriott, this year’s PCS Fusion dance performance suited many tastes, from hula dancing to a Bollywood-inspired solo. Defying all odds, the performance was the trifecta--enthralling, innovative, and hardly reminiscent of previous dance company performances. Although there were familiar faces and a couple familiar songs, the production was authentic and novel, experimenting with more avant-garde technologies and styles, such as the light projection piece inspired by Pilobolus dance company; the LED-incorporating and perhaps seizure-inducing light show; and the stunning solo dance perfo...
