The race for student body president at PCS has officially come to a close, perhaps not with fireworks, but with plenty of passion and purpose. Among several candidates who initially stepped forward to share their visions for the school’s future, two students stood out: Tom Saz Donohue and Cadence Johnson Swalve. Through their thoughtful campaigns, both impressed their peers with strong ideas and a clear commitment to student voice, ultimately earning their positions as co-presidents for the upcoming school year.
Tom’s campaign emphasized reinstating democracy within the student senate and giving the student body a stronger voice through school-wide polls. Cadence shared a similar vision, aiming to increase community involvement and use student input to guide decisions. Their ability to connect with students and focus on real, relevant issues won them widespread support.
As they prepare to take office, both leaders have reflected on what motivates them and what they hope to achieve. “If a decision is within my power to influence,” Tom shared, “the opinion of the student body will be measured and taken seriously.” Cadence echoed this sentiment, highlighting their commitment to making every student feel seen and heard. One of their top priorities will be returning senators to their original purpose and empowering students through open communication and engagement.
When asked how they’ll manage their responsibilities, Cadence stated, “I’ll prioritize both my academic and presidential duties, organizing my time so I can be productive without burning out.” Tom added, “Delegating work and respecting each other’s schedules will be key. If my co-president is having a rough week, I’ll step in—and they’ll do the same for me.”
Transparency is also a major focus for the duo. They plan to continue weekly announcements to keep students informed about student government initiatives, and they aim to foster trust through open, honest dialogue. “We want everyone to know what’s going on and feel a part of it,” Cadence shared.
As for what drives them, Tom offered a mix of humor and sincerity: “The biggest motivators in my campaign were the fame, power, money, and glory… and, of course, my deep and undying passion for making PCS a better place.” With their dedication, teamwork, and shared vision, Tom and Cadence are ready to lead PCS into a new era of student involvement and community. Here’s to a year of positive change.
