“Drama is the Lebron James of PCS.” – Bixby Rasmussen
Drama class is fun. No, it’s not just fun, it’s incomparable to any other experience you will have in your life. After trying to summarize the beauty of drama at PCS, we decided that we can not put into words the importance of this program; however, many other drama students can, so we’ll let them take it from here. Gigi Appleton, a ninth grade Drama 2 student said, “Theatre has brought me closer together with my other classmates and it always makes me laugh”. Her classmate, Rylan Pabich, also a ninth grader, elaborated, “Ever since I joined drama it has changed my life in every aspect”. The transformational power of drama includes the gift of greater communication skills that students, like Jaxon Robinson (ninth grade) have gained. Friendships have blossomed in drama class, as Adam Cushing (ninth grade), and Thalia Ysais (ninth grade) described. Drama also helped many students with their confidence as Shane Florimonte attested to.
The practice of knowing you have a team supporting you can encourage you to take risks and put yourself out there. This experience can help students find success in different ways that are outside of their comfort zone. Danny Riva (ninth grade) even stated, “Drama and confidence go together like mac and cheese”. Toma Brasovaneu, ninth grade, elaborated on how drama has built his confidence. He said, “Drama made me stop overthinking and start doing.” This is exactly the experience for many drama students; you learn to be a more active participant in your own life, you learn to seize moments. Drama has been essential for many hardworking students by being a respite from a busy day. Thalia mentioned, “I really love having drama as a class. I think it’s a really good way to relax and decompress during the long school day”.
Perhaps one of the most touching takeaways from drama class with Mr. Wallraff are the lifelong friends that students make in his classes. As Thalia and Adam both described, perhaps these friendships are made possible due to the “really positive space,” as described by Ava Young, ninth grade, that drama is. If you haven’t seen a drama show recently, get tickets by looking out for posters on the drama room doors and scanning the QR codes on them. Drama 3 is coming up the soonest, with a choose your own adventure play, where the audience gets to determine the next course of action. Next are the One Acts performed by not one but two classes of talented Drama 2 students. Lastly, there are the Fairytales that Drama 1 students wrote and directed, which will be a special, fun show to end the school year!
