It was on a cold and dreary day when a bright light of hope came to shine in our favorite middle aged biology teacher’s heart. “Kyle” Walters, a once lonesome, single, and underpaid father of none, rediscovered what love is through his new amphibian amiga: Antonelli. This boisterous bullfrog relit the spark in his cold unfeeling heart. On an unassuming 9th grade trip to Antonelli pond, Walters found his soon to be best friend. When questioned about their first meeting Walters replied, choked up, “I didn’t want to terrorize the students by killing it outright.” Lovingly named “Antonelli” from her origins, this bullfrog is a native to the east coast of the Mississippi but the species was brought here during the gold rush and since has become an invasive animal in the California region. His enemies turned friends as Mr. Walters used to be paid to catch bullfrogs and kill them, he described his method as “[I] pounce on them like a cat”. When asked, Do you think Antonelli is very worldly for a frog? He replied: “No.” When requested to address the controversies of bringing a frog away from her home to live in his classroom, Mr. Walters remarked that the alternative was death so he “thinks she got it pretty good.” While the future is uncertain for Antonelli, one thing’s for sure: Mr. Walters, a once cold, and sarcastic individual’s world has been flipped upside down, for he is now a cold, sarcastic individual who also owns a bullfrog.
