Retrospective of October Ultimate Frisbee Tournament

Tam Ly Mai-Clark

It was a beautiful day. The wind was mild on Ocean Beach in San Francisco where the PCS ultimate frisbee team was playing their first tournament of the season. Countless frisbees flew through the air as spectators cheered them on from the sidelines. Ronan Mai, the co-captain of the team says, “I think our team did extremely well for our experience level.” In the end they got 6th place out of 19 teams in the tournament. Robert Clark, one of the two new coaches this year describes how he believes that the team’s performance truly reflected how hard they have worked. He stated, “The more experienced players improved the quality of play using the new technique, called Flow, whereas the less experienced players improved technically.”

A lot of new players were added to the team this year; we now have around 30 players on the high school team. These new players really proved their skill in this tournament, while older players expressed a liking to this year’s new coaches. In previous years the team didn’t have a coach and instead practiced by themselves, but now the new coaches Robert Clark and Thien Mai are going to bring our younger and older players to a new level of play.
