The classrooms at PCS might be full of lessons and homework, but this fall, some teachers are battling it out in a different arena: the fantasy football field. The PCS staff fantasy league has been around for a few years now, and it has become a tradition that combines competition, strategy, and plenty of friendly banter.
For those new to the game, fantasy football lets people act like NFL team managers. Each person drafts real players, then scores points based on those athletes’ performances. Some teachers study to make careful picks, while others just go with their favorite teams or players they recognize. Either way, every matchup matters.
This year’s league is already off to a lively start. Some teams look strong after the draft, while others are scrambling to recover from bad luck and tough losses. Mr Alley is struggling with the format of having 2 starting quarterbacks, as he is not used to that from his other leagues. Mr Ramirez, however, has been the star of the league so far, leading it 3-0. Ms. Alvarez, took it all and won the league last year. Will she be able to make a comeback to defend her crown? Either way, every Monday morning, there’s a new buzz in the hallways about who pulled off an upset or who had a rough week.
As a first-time fantasy football player myself, I know its unpredictability. I’ve seen my own players surprise me and it’s been fun realizing that the teachers are dealing with the same rollercoaster.
With plenty of NFL season left, no one knows who will take the PCS staff crown this year. But one thing’s clear:
fantasy football has become a PCS tradition.
