School sports are more than a break from textbooks and routines – they are a vital part of a student’s growth. Being on a sports team can help students build confidence and discipline. Athletics help shape well-rounded people who form deep connections and foster teamwork. As PCS fall sports come to an end and winter sports begin, students of all grade levels are heading to courts, fields, and tracks to partake in a variety of athletics.
Anticipating a winter season filled with strong competition and school spirit, PCS high school sports like boys and girls soccer and girls basketball are drawing lots of interest. Middle school sports such as girls soccer and boys basketball help build community amongst PCS’s younger grades. Students can speak to the impact athletics have had on their journey at PCS. Cecilia Tannaci, a junior and girls volleyball player described the impact of team sports: “Being able to meet people and … connect across grade levels creates an amazing community.”
Although the winter sports at PCS are already off to an amazing start, it’s also important to acknowledge the incredible successes achieved by the PCS fall sports teams. Girls flag football – coached by PCS teachers Mr. Wallraff and Mr.Dobie – had an incredible year with an overall record of 9 – 5 and a league record of 9 – 3. High school girls volleyball worked incredibly hard and won 3-2 on senior night. The high school and middle school cross country teams have had an amazing year with the entire girls cross country team and three members from the boys team qualifying for CCS (Central Coast Section). Additionally, this year, the high school girls cross country team had a notable achievement – they received a CCS Scholastic Team Award meaning that they were one of the top five teams with the highest collective grade point average to qualify.
On behalf of The Roar, good luck to all of our athletes and GO PUMAS!
